Edmonton Energy Benchmarking

Edmonton's Building Energy Benchmarking Program improves building energy efficiency and contributes to significant energy savings and greenhouse gas reduction by providing owners with information about their buildings.

The program supports building owners and operators to reduce energy consumption and will help them transition to the mandatory building energy labeling initiative announced by the Federal Government in the Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change.

If you own or manage any building of at least 1,000 square feet, you are eligible to participate. This is a voluntary requirement so there are no mandatory requirements.

All energy utilities including electricity, natural gas, district energy, and any other purchased fuel type used to operate your building.

Violators of the ordinance may be subject to a fine of up to $100 for the first violation, and an additional fine of up to $25 for each day that the violation continues.

Building owners must report their energy usage data to EPA’s Portfolio Manager, a reporting tool that allows building owners to compare their building’s energy efficiency with similar buildings.
