Miami-Dade County Energy Benchmarking

The voluntary energy benchmarking program from the Miami-Dade County Office focuses on improving building performance and reducing operational costs. The challenge is open to owners and managers of any existing residential or commercial buildings located in the county. For those participating in the challenge, you’ll receive free training for lowering operating costs, educational opportunities from industry experts, and more. There is also a proposed BE305 Building Performance Ordinance that’s still awaiting approval that will have energy benchmarking requirements for commercial and government buildings over 20,000 square feet.

The Miami-Dade BE305 program has the following energy benchmarking goals:

• Reduce operating costs through energy conservation for property owners

• Help assist vulnerable neighbors by lowering utility cost burdens

• Expand access to financing tools for efficiency improvements

• Boost building performance and efficiency through building code training and education

• Increase building efficiency awareness and data-driven decision making

• Lower water supply constraints and help preserve this resource

• Stimulate economic productivity, create jobs, and bolster healthy, resilient communities

This is a voluntary program, so there are no mandatory requirements at this time. If you own or manage any residential or commercial building located within Miami-Dade County, you are eligible to participate.

Property owners and managers interested in participating must register here.

The program currently has no formal deadline.

All energy utilities including electricity, natural gas, district energy, and any other purchased fuel type used to operate your building.

Water is another utility required for reporting.

Building owners must report their energy usage data to EPA’s Portfolio Manager, a reporting tool that allows building owners to compare their building’s energy efficiency with similar buildings.
